Biography

Thomas Lickorish was born in 1874 in Blisworth, Northants. He and Afra Ellen Cockerill were married on 8 July 1897 in Gayton, Northampton. He died in December 1955, at age ~81, in N.Bucks (St Caths.)
Thomas Lickorish lived in a canal house at Simpson and courting Afra he would ride a Penny Farthing along the towpath to Gayton to see her. He later became a lengthsman and looked after the section of canal from fenny Stratford to Simpson. Bridge no 92 at Simpson is known locally as Lickorish Bridge. The British Waterways Museum at Stoke Bruerne has a photograph of a group of maintenance men at Blisworth Tunnel Thomas is one of the men. He was a Labourer. in August 1897. He was enumerated on the census of 1901 in Gayton shown at Post Office Row, with wife, children Sydney and Resden. He was enumerated on the census of 1911 in Simpson, Blatchley Shows Thomas aged 36 Canal Labourer Married for 12 years with 6 children. Wife Afra aged 33 children at home Sydney Thomas 13, Risden aged 12, Leslie aged, 10 Percy aged 7, Maud aged 4 and Edgar aged 1. They had 6 rooms.

Biography

William Lickorish was born in 1867 in West Derby (St Caths.) He and Sarah Jane Jackson were married in 1888.
William Lickorish appeared in the census in 1891 in Blisworth, Northampton, is shown at Westleys Buildings, Stoke Road, as a Millers Wagoner aged 23 with wife Sarah also 23 a dressmaker and son Wilfred A 8 months. He appeared in the census in 1901 in Carlton Parish, Northhants, has him and family at Parish of Carlton, Marjorie has died. He is now a Railway Brakeman. He appeared in the Psgr List on 25 March 1911 Arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia aboard the Megantic, along with wife Sarah and children Bertram Stanley, Wilfred Arthur and Mabyn Annie. He appeared in the Psgr List on 1 July 1932 Both William and his wife Sarah arrive at Liverpool having travelled from Montreal, Quebec, Canada aboard SS Duchess of Richmond. William sates he is a farmer living at 145 Long Lane East Finchley,London. He appeared in the Psgr List on 27 October 1933 Arrived at Quebec having left Liverpool aboard The Duchess of Richmond travelled with his wife.
